The Magical World of Harry Potter: Social Class and Education in the Classroom
Themes
A theme is defined as a subject of talk, or a topic within any kind of literature, movie, etc. There are hundreds of themes in Harry Potter. However, For my project I am only focusing one one theme: Social Class and how this pertains to education. Even though I am only focusing on one theme, it is still important to acknowledge the others, below some important themes are mentioned.
Social Class- Social class is a division of society based on social and economic status. Social class pertains to everyone who is and has lived in any type of society. This is important for students to learn because it helps them to better understand the way their community works. In Harry Potter, social class is approached differently. Social class is still about economic status (which also pertains to social status) but instead of just pertaining to money it also pertains to the idea of being "pure blood". If you are a "pure" blooded wizard than you have a better chance at having a higher economic status. There are many moments throughout the series when this is brought to light (the Malfoys) and will allow for conversations builders for students.
