The Harry Potter Series
Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone
Harry is an 11 year old boy who is forced to live his horrible Aunt and Uncle. After his parents are killed, the lonely 10-year-old is living under the stairs in the detestable Dursley household. A mysterious letter arrives, inviting him to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Suddenly, some things start to make sense- why he is loathed by his relatives, all Muggles (non-magic people), why he has a lighting bolt scar on his forehead, and how his future might be better than his past. Harry is a celebrity at Hogwarts, the only person to escape the clutches of the evil Dark Lord--He-who-must-not-be-named, who killed his parents and left him the scar. In this book, Harry meets characters that stay throughout the series, stalwart friends Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger, enemy Draco Malfoy, Professor Severus Snape, Headmaster Albus Dumbledore, and Hagrid, the giant who loves animals.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
The walls of Hogwarts not only whisper sinister warnings to Harry, but when "The Chamber of Secrets has been opened. Enemies of the Heir, Beware, " appears on those walls, he and his friends understand it's up to them to investigate what is turning Hogwarts students to stone. Sport, in the form of Quidditch, a sort of soccer played on zooming broomsticks, is one way to escape the pressure. Moaning Myrtle, the specter that haights the girl's bathrrom, and Professor Gilderoy Lockhart, a professor head over heels in love with Golderoy Lockhart, provide comic relief from the battler.

Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Even wizards have to go through adolescence, 15-year-old Harry mopes around, has a powerful crush, and feels by turns triumphant and rebellious. Maybe he should give up --life is tough enough, why is it him that has to fight? Expecially when the newspaper of the magic world, the Daily Prophet (which doesnt live up to its name) insinuates that Harry's battle with Voldemort at the Triwizard Tournament is all in his head. Everyone at the Ministry of Magic spurns Harry. No one, it seems, wants to face the truth: that Voldemort is back.
