Romeo and Juliet

What is it?

Romeo and Juliet is a tragedy written by William Shakespeare early in his career about two young star-crossed lovers whose deaths ultimately reconcile their feuding families. It was among Shakespeare's most popular plays during his lifetime and, along with Hamlet, is one of his most frequently performed plays.

Why is it taught?

There are multiple benefits, such as increased skill in understanding text based on context clues and practice in understanding a complext plot, to reading the play in class. I have found that is one of some students most favorite play to act out because of how dramatic and fun the play can be when presented with the right attitude and engaging lessons. The students are left with pricesless skill in knowledge in regards to understanding a complex text and enjoying it.
